What is GUPUS

GUPUS, short for Goalanda Upazila Protibondhi Unnayan Sangastha, is a non-political, secular, and voluntary organization founded on January 1, 2013. Governed by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), GUPUS is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities and fostering their rights, dignity, and socio-economic development. The organization operates in the Goalanda Upazila of Rajbari District, Bangladesh, particularly focusing on disaster-prone areas like the banks of the Padma River.

At its heart, GUPUS strives to create a world where everyone has equal opportunities, regardless of physical or cognitive challenges. It envisions an inclusive society that values diversity, breaks down barriers, and ensures accessibility for all. This commitment to inclusivity forms the foundation of every initiative and program undertaken by the organization.

The mission of GUPUS is simple yet impactful: to empower persons with disabilities through advocacy, capacity building, vocational training, and sustainable development projects. It actively works to reduce inequality, promote awareness about disability rights, and create employment opportunities that enable PWDs to live with independence and dignity.

Over the years, GUPUS has introduced innovative programs tailored to the needs of PWDs. For instance, the Flower Broom Making Project provides vocational training and employment, ensuring financial stability for many individuals. The Auto Rickshaw Project creates accessible income-generating opportunities by offering specially designed rickshaws for PWDs. Additionally, GUPUS plays a critical role in Relief Distribution, extending aid to vulnerable communities during disasters or emergencies.

GUPUS also takes pride in its advocacy efforts. The organization engages with policymakers, local leaders, and communities to raise awareness about disability rights, accessibility, and the importance of building an inclusive society. It conducts campaigns, workshops, and public events to amplify the voices of PWDs and advocate for their rights and representation.

The organization's strength lies in its people. Led by a passionate team of individuals with disabilities, GUPUS reflects a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the community it serves. This direct involvement ensures that the organization's actions align closely with the needs of PWDs, making its programs both effective and impactful.

Since its inception, GUPUS has achieved significant milestones, touching countless lives through its initiatives. By focusing on rehabilitation, relief, and capacity building, it has built a reputation as a trusted and compassionate organization. Its work has not only transformed individuals' lives but also contributed to broader societal changes, fostering acceptance and understanding.

In a region prone to natural disasters and economic challenges, GUPUS stands as a beacon of hope. Its dedication to empowering persons with disabilities, combined with its innovative and inclusive approach, ensures that it continues to make a lasting impact on the community.
