Goalanda Upazila Protibondhi Unnayan Sangastha (GUPUS) is a non-political, secular, voluntary and social welfare self-organization of PWDs (DPO- "Disabled People's Organization" based). The organization is managed and controlled by PWDs. GUPUS was established on January 1, 2013 with a view to include persons with disability in the mainstream of development, realization of rights, mutual cooperation and support the helpless people by 356 PWDs with helps from all walks people of society. It is located in a disaster-prone area on the bank of the second-fastest flowing river in the world- the Padma in the sub-district of Goalanda under Rajbary District in the southern part of Bangladesh. Every year the people of this area become landless and helpless due to floods and river bursts. As a result, poor people including PWDs live with humanity. GUPUS plays a vital role in the socio-economic development of PWDs and those affected by natural disasters such as river erosion and floods and implementation of laws related to the interests of PWDs including the UNCRPD at the local level.

To ensure a balance socio-economic system and overall development of persons with disabilities through promoting a safe environment, implementation laws and order, developing accessible infrastructure, creating employment for persons with disabilities, and helping disadvantaged people in the working areas.
